Blanco is located on U.S. Highway 281, twelve miles south of Johnson City. With the larger cities of Austin and San Antonio just an hour away, Blanco enjoys a refreshingly slower pace. Locals gather regularly at the Blanco Bowling ClubCafé for coffee and pause to chat on the town square.The Club is only one of eleven in the state with non-automated, nine-pin bowling.

The river is the focal point of Blanco State Park, one of only a few state parks with camping facilities located within a city. The town’s majestic centerpiece is the old Blanco County courthouse. Built in 1885, it currently serves as a visitor’s center and community hall.
