Kinney is a small South Austin community that is made up of mainly commercial real estate but does offer quite a few single-family residences. It is becoming a more popular option for those looking to live close to the restaurants, bars and shops of South Lamar Boulevard but without the high cost of other South Austin neighborhoods. Kinney is in a great location as it offers easy access to all major highways, the entertainment district of South Lamar and to the Barton Creek Greenbelt. If you are looking for that South Austin lifestyle but still want some change left in your pocket, Kinney may be a neighborhood worth exploring.
Where is Kinney?
Kinney is located in the area between South Lamar and the railroad tracks to the east and west and Oltorf and Highway 290 to the north and south. Kinney is sometimes overlooked because it is a small neighborhood surrounded by larger and more expensive neighborhoods. The SoLa Neighborhood borders Kinney to the east. Sought-after Barton Hills and Zilker border Kinney on the west and north side
Kinney residents have some of the best restaurants, bars and dance halls at their doorstep. South Lamar Boulevard is an entertainment hub and also houses one of Austin’s dance hall originals, the Broken Spoke. The Broken Spoke is a an old-fashioned Texas Dance Hall and a must-do for all residents. If you’re hungry, you can stop by Giovanni’s Pizza Stand or grab a drink at Red’s Porch. Whatever your vice, it is all within a short walk or quick drive from Kinney.
