It’s truly a sight to behold – longtime Austin resident Walter Payne can often be spotted riding his 1888 replica Penny Farthing bike around town. In case the term “Penny Farthing” doesn’t ring a bell, it’s one of those old-fashioned bikes with a giant front wheel and tiny back wheel. There are no brakes, and it is more akin to riding a unicycle than an ordinary bike. It’s distinctive. It’s different. It offers Walter a unique viewpoint from its elevated seat. And anyone who knows him will tell you it’s only fitting for a true “Renaissance Man” like Walter.
