About Driftwood TX

Folks have taken the short drive from Austin for decades to eat at the famous Salt Lick BBQ and have decided it is a great place to live as well. The lure of Driftwood is its perfect country setting with gently rolling hills, pastures and giant oak trees where one can live at a slower pace but still be close enough to Austin to commute or drive in to enjoy the benefits of the city.

Finding Driftwood

From Austin take 290 W to just after the Y in Oakhill and turn south (or left) at FM 1826 and proceed for several miles (stop for Saltlick BBQ on the way) until you come to a dead end. Turn left at FM 150 and go about a mile to the old Texaco filling station. This is the old community of Driftwood which was settled in the 1850s and currently sits in the zip codes 78619 and 78719 .

Driftwood Real Estate

Understand that there is not really much in the way of a town in Driftwood. It consists of an historic (closed) old filling station/store,  a church, and a couple of shops. Surrounding Driftwood are medium to small subdivisions, mostly with homes on one to five acre sites. There are a variety of homes from the mid-200’s to million dollar properties. Look at subdivisions like Rim Rock if staying closer to Austin is your goal, La Ventana for higher-end property complete with community pool and clubhouse, or stay on FM 150 heading west to Sierra West if having your children attend the highly acclaimed Wimberley ISD is important to you.
